Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Wednesday initiated the development of a road linking Chakdara in Lower Dir to the northern town of Gilgit — aimed at becoming an alternate transportation route for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a news source reported.

This information came to light during a meeting between KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and Provincial Minister for Communications & Works Akbar Ayub Khan. Similar to other CPEC routes, the provincial government expects this new road link to also provide a boost to the local economy and tourism industry.
The new alternate CPEC route will also include the Shandoor and Chitral roads. The meeting revealed that the authorities concerned expect to complete the work to finalise the PC-I of the Chakdara-Gilgit road link soon.

During the meeting, the CM revealed that the provincial government had been prioritising certain sectors and projects, with the focus currently on expanding communication networks, constructing new roads, opening industrial zones, and promoting tourism.
