Islamabad: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar stated that consensus to build two dams exists among stakeholders and that the dams will be built through money recovered from illegally written-off loans, a news source reported. These loans worth PKR 54 billion given to 222 companies were written off according to a scheme of the State Bank of Pakistan in 2008.
The CJP was hearing a case after suo-motu notice was taken on the matter. He stated in the court that several of the 222 companies were ready to return 75% of the money. Meanwhile, other companies that don’t want to contest the case further can do so in banking courts.
