Karachi: Pakistan Railways plans to connect Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) with under-construction Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines in the city to reduce the pressure of traffic on roads, according to news published on Wednesday (October 13).

During the meeting with Senate Standing Committee on Railways, the Pakistan Railways officials shared a plan that will connect a circular railway line with five BRT lines which will improve its utility and effectiveness. Chairman Senator Muhammad Qasim, who presided over the meeting, was briefed on the progress of KCR and anti-encroachment operation on the railway land.
In the meeting, some senate committee members recommended connecting KCR to the airport to facilitate foreign and domestic travellers. Besides this, Pakistan Railways officials also discussed the issue of encroachments on railway land in Sindh. The meeting attendees were informed about the steps taken to recover the encroached land.

It is pertinent to mention that 112.9-kilometres-long roads are being developed under BRT projects. So far, only Green Line is ready to start its services. It was mentioned that once the railway is restored, it will facilitate 475,000 passengers on daily a basis. It was reported that after 10 years, the service will be used by 1.1 million people every day.
