Computerisation of land records in KP

With the Punjab government already in process of computerising land records, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has also come forward with a plan to computerise land records in the province.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf Chairman Mr Imran Khan has recently unveiled that his party’s government would take initiatives to complete the computerisation of land records within 3 years. He said that the KP government has started automating land records in the Mardan district and is planning to implement the system across the province.

The computerisation of land records would not only ease people but also announce an end to the land disputes, added Mr Khan. He also told reporters that the revenue records in the western countries were computerised because of which there existed no land issues in these countries.

Patwari culture is ingrained in our property-transfer system and has become a woe for the people. The computerisation of land records would not only curb Patwaris from fleecing people for their personal gains, but it will also put an end to the turf wars, which continue for ages and lead nowhere.

Land grabbing is another major bane that needs to be banished from our real estate sector. Computerisation of land records will prove helpful in curbing land-grabbing issues.

It is also true that people on influential positions sometimes play their part in facilitating real estate scams. Land records automation will discourage such fraudsters as well.

The KP government‘s initiative to relieve the province’s real estate sector of scams and frauds is commendable. At the same time, I believe that the computerisation of land records should be implemented across the country, not in a couple of provinces.
