Rawalpindi: The new building of Pindi Library is to be completed within approximately a month and this completion has been highly awaited, according to a news source. The initial deadline was set for December 31st by the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC), but the building will most probably be complete in around a month.
This historic library was established in 1873, and had over 8,000 members at its peak. However, at the time of its demolition in April 2018 for reconstruction, it only had 200 active members. Earlier in 2018, Rawalpindi Mayor Sardar Naseem made the decision to utilise a World Bank loan given to the Punjab Government for the refurbishment of the library. A senior official of RMC stated that the aim of reconstructing the library is to facilitate younger generations and use the building for literary events. This World Bank loan had been given for the development of public infrastructure in five major cities of Punjab, and Rawalpindi had received a share worth PKR 250 million.
Work on the library was halted during the election period, and now that it has been resumed, it is expected to be complete in around a month.
