Lahore: The Commissioner Karachi Office has ordered the Works and Services Department’s Superintendent Engineer, Sindh, to complete the remaining seven kilometres (kms) of the Karachi Southern Bypass within the current fiscal year, a news source reported.

Once completed, the Southern Bypass will become the link road that connects the National Highway with the M9 Motorway.
Upon the request of the business community, Additional Commissioner-I Karachi Asad Ali Khan chaired a meeting at the Commissioner Karachi Office to resolve the issue. He issued the aforementioned directives during this session.

The representatives of the business community informed the meeting that the Southern Bypass was the only route connected to Port Qasim that could facilitate industries in transporting their cargo across the country. They added that the currently decrepit condition of the infrastructure in the area was costing millions, with regards to trade activities.
The representatives also highlighted the unsafe conditions of a bridge in the area that was used by heavy vehicles traveling from the Southern region towards Port Qasim. They added that it was a cause of regular accidents, road blocks, and disruption of traffic flow.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent Engineer revealed that 11 kms out of the 18-km-long link road had already been constructed. He assured that they would complete the remaining 7-km-long stretch within the ongoing financial year. He added that authorities concerned would repair a 1-km-long section of the road and construct bridges within a month’s time.
