Karachi: Mayor Wasim Akhtar on Monday directed the officials concerned to complete the city’s pending uplift projects on a priority basis, a news source reported. He added that ‘no new development work should begin’ until the projects brought forward from last year reached their completion.

Akhtar chaired a meeting of the Engineering Department to review the progress of uplift projects in Karachi. He ordered the Works & Services director general (DG) and chief engineers to see to the timely completion of projects within their respective jurisdictions. He called for using top quality material in these projects in order to enhance their durability.
The mayor also asked the relevant departments to fix the tiles at the underpasses at Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, and Ghareebabad since the traffic flow was suffering due to ongoing work. He added that he was visiting different sites to review the ongoing cleaning of drains across the city.

He highlighted that a permanent solution to this problem was removing of encroachments from the drains and setting up a boundary wall around them. Akhtar also announced that uplift projects worth PKR 120 million would be carried out in different union councils (UCs) of the city.
