Karachi: Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah has constituted a committee to monitor and manage RO (reverse osmosis) plants in Tharparkar and other parts of Sindh, a news source reported.
Shah had called a meeting after reports regarding a number of non-operational RO plants surfaced. The issue has been causing an acute water shortage in some localities.
Chairing the meeting, the chief secretary stressed the need for making all-out efforts to ensure the maintenance of all RO plants.
He wanted all the stakeholders to work towards ensuring the supply of potable water to citizens.
The committee comprises of the secretary of the public health engineering department (PHED), additional finance secretary, representatives of NED University, Mehran University and M/s Pak Oasis Ltd.
The chief secretary directed the committee to prepare a detailed report regarding performance of RO plants as well. The report has to be submitted to him within 15 days.
