Islamabad: The interior ministry has notified a high-profile committee, which will be headed by the interior secretary, to transform Islamabad into a model city, a news source reported. The committee members include CDA chairman, chief commissioner, IGP, deputy commissioner Islamabad, SSP and Chief Metropolitan Officer.
The committee has been tasked to come up with a plan for the model city project and will hold weekly meetings to improve public service delivery. It has also been asked to ensure effective implementation of rule of law.
The committee, according to its terms of reference (TORs), may consult elected public representatives and other concerned officials for transparent and effective implementation of the government policy.
Last week, Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi had announced the government’s plans to revise the master plan of Islamabad and said a committee would be set up in this regard.
He said land-grabbers had occupied a large amount of land previously but the current government successfully vacated 33,000 kanals just in two villages.
This is meant to be part of the efforts to stop mushroom growth in the federal capital. The government also plans to expedite Capital Development Authority’s operation against land-grabbers and strict action will be taken against their facilitators.
