Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday constituted a five-member committee to finalise proposals for the Leh Expressway project in Rawalpindi; further directing Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister on Finance Dr Salman Shah to formulate these suggestions following consultations with stakeholders, according to news sources.

He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting of the Nullah Leh expansion project. The PM said that the residents of Rawalpindi were facing various problems due to rapid population growth; adding that the project will boost economic activity.

Moreover, he stated that the Leh Expressway project in Rawalpindi would be designed to prevent urban flooding (a common occurrence during the monsoon season) in Rawalpindi and would include a drainage and wastewater treatment system as well as and modern constructions/industrial zone.
In response, PM Khan was briefed on the Nullah Leh expansion. He was told that the project would cost approximately PKR 79 billion.
