Lahore: The Punjab government on Wednesday formed a 13-member committee to devise a new urban land records law, a news source reported.

Ahmed Ali Kamboh will head the committee. Its members include Secretary Settlement Munir Ahmed Shah, Secretary Taxation Nadeem Abbas, Additional Commissioner Revenue Rao Riaz Ijaz, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Malik Awais, Consultant Land Revenue Ali Muhammad Khokhar, Director Legal Affairs Muhammad Zulfikar, PITB Senior Programme Manager Haider Ali, Additional Director Land Records Muhammad Shafique, Deputy and Assistant Directors Walled City Lahore Shahid Mahmood and Faiza Shah, Inspector of Stamps Sultan Alam, and Naib Tehsildar Ayub Bhatti.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Supreme Court has barred patwaris from functioning in urban areas. Former chief justice Saqib Nisar had previously issued the orders to this effect in a suo motu case.

Until the new guidelines are received, patwaris remain prohibited from registering property transfers and issuing fard. So far, the property-transfer mechanism has come to a halt in 253 patwari circles.
