Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Communications has formed a sub-committee to review the utilisation of revenue by the National Highway Authority (NHA), a news source reported. Senator Fida Muhammad has been appointed as the convener of this sub-committee.

This decision was taken during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee chaired by Senator Hidayatullah at the Parliament House. During the meeting, Senator Mian Atiq asked NHA to inform the committee about the income it generates from each toll plaza. He also directed the authority to provide details on the three-year audit conducted by DG Audit.
Meanwhile, NHA officials informed the committee that the overloading of trucks was causing an increase in the cost of maintenance and rehabilitation of the road networks in the country.

According to sources, NHA has failed to provide details regarding the regular maintenance and rehabilitation of the NHA network with the revenue the authority collects.
