Rawalpindi: The Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah on Wednesday ordered the clearance of encroachments along Nullah Leh to avoid a flood-like scenario during the monsoon season, according to news sources.

Mr Shah presided over the disaster management meeting organised by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) at the Commissioner Office. The meeting was attended by WASA Managing Director Raja Shaukat, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amir Atiq Khan, Assistant Commissioner (General) Maleeha Khan, Additional Commissioner (Coordination) Arif Umer Aziz, Municipal Corporation Chief Executive Officer, RWMC Managing Director, and heads of relevant departments.
During the meeting, the commissioner instructed that the cleanup of 11 tributaries in Nullah Leh be expedited. He went on to say that there is always the risk of flooding due to the trash heaps. Once it is cleared, the flow of water will not be impacted.
Furthermore, the commissioner asked that special attention be paid to vulnerable areas such as Ratta Amral, Dhoke Najju, Gawalmandi, Tipu Road, Katariyan, and Zia-ul-Haq Colony. He also directed the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) to clear out trash piles around the city and nullahs.

In addition, he instructed Rescue 1122 to update their Flood Warning System, which was established at the Nullah Leh, in order to avert tragic situations.
