Rawalpindi: City Commissioner Captain (retired) Mohammad Mehmood on Thursday approved the Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation (RMC) budget 2020-21, a news source reported. The surplus budget for the new fiscal year has a total outlay of PKR 3.5 billion, out of which, the civic body has allocated PKR 2.1 billion for development projects in Rawalpindi.

According to details revealed, RMC has allocated PKR 1.3 billion for non-development expenditure. The approved RMC budget 2020-21 includes
- PKR 267.8 million for salaries of employees
- PKR 500 million for pensions of former employees
- PKR 274.7 million for contingency, services, and commodities
- PKR 20 million for miscellaneous expenses
Upon the directives of the Punjab government, the civic body has also allocated 2% of its budget for sports and youth development initiatives. On the other hand, RMC plans to convert its old office building near Fawara Chowk on Jinnah Road into a car park facility for generating funding. As per details, the civic body has allocated an additional PKR 20 million for appointing an advisor for this project.
RMC Chief Municipal Officer Khawaja Imran Safdar said that this project would be based on public-private partnership and a plan has been dispatched to the Public Private Partnership Authority in Lahore.

The officer revealed that RMC would also spend PKR 60 million on the construction of a park near the Pirwadhai General Bus Stand and PKR 105 million on the renovation of Jinnah Hall. He added that they have allocated PKR 570 million for ongoing development projects in Rawalpindi and issued tenders but work could not start due to lockdown situation.
