Lahore: To stop the continued wastage of water in view of lowering underground water levels, the agriculture department has decided to set up a groundwater management commission, a news source reported. The commission will consist of 13 members and it will be headed by the Chief Secretary.
The suggestion will be sent to the new assembly when it has been elected. Throughout Punjab, 1.2 million tubewells are extracting 400 million acre feet water from underground resources and the water levels in some areas are lowering by as much 2 to 4 feet per year.
