Islamabad: A commission has been notified by the Ministry of Interior for the first-ever revision of Islamabad’s master plan, according to a news source. This commission will consist of 12 members and will be headed by the chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Committee, who will act as the convener until an official from the private sector is appointed.
The other members of this commission include United Nations Settlement Programme Habitat Programme Manager Jawed Ali Khan, former CDA Planning and Design committee member Asad Mehboob Kayani, the incumbent member planning, Pakistan Institute for Environmental Development Action Research Islamabad Executive Syed Ayub Qutub, and the director general of Rawalpindi Development Authority, among others.

This commission will revise the city’s master plan for the next 20 years, and consider the regularisation of constructions which violate the current plan. Additionally, it will scrutinize the 1992 Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Zoning Regulations, the 1960 CDA Ordinance, the 2005 Islamabad Building Regulations; among other ordinances. It was also emphasised that the commission would keep in view the participation of the private sector in health and education when drawing up its recommendations. The commission’s work is to be concluded within six months, and will include proposals for both long-term and short-term development.
