The MCL revealed that this change in the road’s name is a tribute to the national hero, Air Commodore Muhammad Mehmood Alam. He was a fighter pilot who set a world record by felling five fighter jets of the opposing air force during the 1965 war between Pakistan and India. The hero already has a prominent road named after him in Gulberg, Lahore, and now the adjoining road has also been renamed to ‘Extension M. M. Alam Road’.
