Islamabad: As part of the Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Clean & Green initiative, as many as 280,000 trees have been planted in the Cold Desert, also known as Katpana Desert or Biama Napko, according to news sources.

The tree-planting effort is part of the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami campaign, which aims to alleviate pollution-related environmental damage and turn barren lands into green spaces. Officials of the 10 billion tsunami tree Program (TBTTP) have described the tree plantation effort ahead of World Environment Day being hosted by Pakistan, as a success tale of leadership and vision.

The ‘Katpana Desert’ is a high-altitude cold desert, located in the picturesque mountain ranges of Skardu, Gilgit Baltistan. In the sweltering October weather, the temperature ranges between 8 and 26 degrees Celsius, while in the winter, the temperature falls below -10 degrees Celsius.
