Islamabad: Pakistani and Chinese officials on Monday inaugurated a 300MW coal power plant in Gwadar, a news source reported. As per details, this facility comes as part of the USD 60 billion agricultural and industrial initiatives framework being developed under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

According to the officials, the letter of interest for this project was issued in 2017 – with the CIHC Pak Power Company Limited serving as the executing agency of the project. The initial cost estimates were USD 50 billion.

Planning and Development Minister Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar said that the government had expedited work on the CPEC projects, while implementation of the remaining projects was also expected to be fast-tracked. Most of the projects under CPEC initially focused on increasing Pakistan’s power production aiming to add 10,000 MW to the grid.
