Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan has revoked the requirement for people seeking Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme assistance to have a valid Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), a news source reported.

This was revealed by Special Assistance to Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Dr. Sania Nishtar in a press conference held on Thursday (April 23). Addressing media, Dr. Nishtar said that the 80% of cash programme under category one has been completed, while the distribution of money is currently underway in category two stage.

The government has so far distributed PKR 69 billion among 5.7 million families, she said. Talking about the SMS received, Dr. Nishtar said that out of the 146 SMS received, 48 million were sent for the same ID card and that too more than once. According to her, 8.8 million ID cards were rejected on the basis of duplication while 88,621 CNIC couldn’t be verified.
