Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday (January 11) directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to complete the feasibility study of the electric tram project on Canal Road, news sources reported. The project includes a tram service from Thokkar Niaz Baig to Jallo Mor.

According to sources, Buzadr directed that the feasibility assessment and project design be completed as soon as possible so that construction could begin on the project. He stated that the project is critical for the development of Lahore and would help to alleviate traffic congestion on Canal Road. He said that because the tram would be ‘Pakistan’s first electric-powered tram system’, every effort must be made to build it on schedule. The meeting also addressed the construction of a 1,000-bed hospital near Arfa Karim Tower and Kot Lakhpat. It was stated that the project’s development will begin soon.

The meeting was attended by the LDA Director General (DG) Ahmad Aziz Tarar, Vice Chairman (VC) Naeem-ul-Haq and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister.
