Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on Wednesday (August 31) announced soft loans for the rehabilitation of flood affectees, news sources reported. The soft loans will be utilised to build houses and restore livelihoods in flood-affected communities.

The minister unveiled the aid package at a meeting with a welfare organisation that works on flood recovery and management. CM Elahi stated that his government is committed to rehabilitating all flood victims as soon as possible. He thanked the welfare organisation for their work. The organisation stated that they will give material help in building supplies to construct dwellings in isolated communities in south Punjab. On the occasion, CM Elahi stated that the government plans to replicate the employment model of the welfare organisation to provide people with a means of subsistence.

It is worth noting that South Punjab has been devastated by a major flood. Many regions have been inundated with water. The meteorological agency has issued a rain warning for the next several days due to the arrival of a new rain system in the country.
