Lahore The Punjab government’s ambitious Free Solar Panel Scheme, spearheaded by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has reached its final day for registrations. The scheme aims to provide substantial relief to households by reducing electricity bills through renewable energy solutions.
Under the initiative, one lakh homes in Punjab will receive free solar panel systems at an estimated cost of Rs10 billion. The solar systems, with capacities of 550 and 1100 watts, are targeted at households consuming an average of 200 electricity units per month on a single meter. Successful applicants will be selected through a transparent balloting process, with installations expected to begin by June 2025.

How to Apply
Residents can register for the scheme via the official portal at cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk. Alternatively, applicants can send their electricity bill reference number and National Identity Card (CNIC) number via SMS to 8800. Assistance is also available through the official helpline at 990302024.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the scheme’s role in promoting renewable energy and reducing financial burdens on citizens. She stated, “The provision of solar panels will provide significant relief to the public in electricity bills. Punjab will be made a hub of renewable energy.”

She also announced plans to convert agricultural tube wells to solar energy gradually. Additionally, initiatives such as distributing one lakh e-bikes to students and introducing e-buses aim to transform the province’s traditional transport landscape.
