Lahore: The Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar has instructed all relevant authorities to strictly implement the ban on burning tyres, garbage, and crop stubble, according to a news report. The aim of this ban is to prevent smog during the high-risk months of October and November.
He issued this order during a high-level meeting held to review anti-smog measures. He also emphasised the urgency of converting brick kilns to zigzag technology to help keep the environment clean.

Other members of this meeting included Punjab Minister for Environment Muhammad Rizwan, the Inspector General Police, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Provincial Secretaries, and other prominent officials.
Buzdar also instructed the Punjab Environmental Protection Department to enforce strict measures to convert steel rerolling industries to environmentally friendly technologies. He also instructed the Punjab Agriculture Department to ensure the that ban on burning crop residue is very strictly implemented.

This ban on burning solid municipal waste, crop residue, leather, and plastics has been imposed for a period of three months across Punjab under Section 144 (6), CrPC, 1898, so that the adverse effects of smog can be averted.
