The district will be the 42nd district of Punjab and the sixth district made during the year 2022. The decision of making Jampur a district was taken during a cabinet meeting attended by officials. On the occasion, Elahi said that the government intends to make Jampur the ‘best district’ of Punjab and generate thousands of employment opportunities. He also added that the government will soon launch a university in Jampur to provide higher education opportunities, particularly to girls.

It is noteworthy that Jampur has been granted district status as part of the government’s plan to create a new province in south Punjab, which is expected to reduce people’s problems and better manage resources in the region. At present, people from these districts are required to go to Lahore for official tasks, incurring great expenses and contributing to the capacity and housing issues in the city.
