Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah has ordered the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Housing Cell (SBBHC) to carry out the balloting for plots in the low-cost housing scheme located in deh Lukman, Khairpur, a news source reported.

The CM also directed SBBHC to invite applications for launching a low-cost housing project in deh Nagan, Karachi. This project would span over 50 acres of land, and will be constructed through a public-private partnership arrangement.
CM Murad was presiding over a SBBHC meeting when he issued these orders. During this meeting, Special Assistant to CM Nawab Wassan briefed him about the housing scheme in deh Lukman. He informed the CM that SBBHC carved out 1,647 100-square yards (sq yd) plots over an area of 81 acres. He added that these plots would be allotted to the poor families for free.
Wassan said that 4,500 applications were received in this regard and 2,083 out of these met the required criteria.
The CM directed the authority to finalise a date for the balloting process so the underprivileged could soon construct their homes on the plots.

For Karachi, CM Shah said that the provincial government could allot half of the 50-acre available land to a private party. This party would be expected to construct two or three apartment buildings for the low-cost housing project. He also revealed bout plans to launch a low-cost housing scheme comprising 600 units in three districts. Out of these, Larkana will receive 400 units, and Jamshoro and Khairpur will get 100 each.
Shah ordered SBBHC to release about PKR 269 million from its funds for this purpose.
