Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz has announced an initiative to provide 1,224 free flats for workers in Taxila and Sundar labour colonies, as reported by a news source on July 11.

Pursuant to the details, key decisions were made to enhance workers’ welfare in a high-level meeting. These included a thorough review of the Labour Department’s performance and detailed briefings on various projects such as scholarships for workers, labour colonies, and healthcare initiatives.
CM Maryam highlighted the allocation of PKR 6 billion for overdue death and marriage grants to over 29,000 workers. Approval was also granted for the construction of two hostels for women workers in Garment City, accommodating 704 women in Sheikhupura.

CM Maryam reiterated the government’s dedication to upholding workers’ rights and ensuring their safety and well-being across Punjab. She asserted that the minimum wage of PKR 37,000 would be enforced with the support of all stakeholders, emphasising that protecting every worker is the government’s responsibility.
