Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar on Monday laid the foundation stone for the Firdous Market Underpass project — a news source reported. The initiative had been delayed due to the government’s imposed coronavirus lockdown; with developmental activity only having been reinitiated last month.

Reportedly, the ceremony was attended by Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Vice Chairman S M Imran and Director General Ahmad Aziz Tarar. In addition, Chief Engineer Habib-ul-Haq Randhawa took the opportunity to brief the CM on the progress of the project so far.
The Firdous Market Underpass project had an estimated cost of PKR 1.09 billion and is expected to be completed at a cost of PKR 960 million by Maqbool Associates — who had the lowest bid. The project is set to be completed within a period of 4 months.

As per the information available, the project involve the development of a dual carriageway 2-lane underpass with a length of about 540 metres. The project is expected to resolve the problem of traffic congestion in the Firdous Market area and will also help save fuel.
