Lahore: Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Sardar Usman Bazdar on Thursday (October 07) formally laid the foundation stone of the Sheranwala Gate Flyover Project, news sources reported. The PKR 4.90 billion worth project was also formally renamed Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh, after the name of the great Sufi saint of Lahore.

While briefing the CM Buzdar, Lahore Development Authority Director General (DG) Ahmad Aziz Tarar said that Hazrat Data Ganj Baksh flyover is 1-kilometre-long with the capacity to handle 130,000 vehicles every day. The flyover is expected to handle the traffic from the areas of Circular Road, Masti Gate, Badami Bagh, Railway Station and all adjoining areas of the city. By design the project will pass from the areas of Naulakha Police Station to the Sheranwala Gate, Yaki Gate, Delhi Gate and will end at Australia Chowk Railway Road. The flyover has an elevation point of 400 meters, while it is also one of the longest flyovers of the city.

As per the details, LDA has spent PKR 2 billion on the acquisition of 22 kanal land with an expected savings of PKR 270 million through transparent bidding and tendering process. Reportedly, the Sheranwala Gate Flyover project was announced in May this year in tandem with the Gulab Devi Underpass and Shahkam Flyover project.
