Karachi: In a bid to curb land grabbing and the illegal use of government land, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah canceled the lease of 70 villages in Malir District. He added that ‘genuine’ villages will be regularised after a fresh survey.
According to a news report, these 70 villages were regularised in 2012 without meeting the legal requirements.
Under the Urban Villages Regularisation Law 2008, villages existing before or up to the year 2000 qualify to be regularised. Before a village is regularised, a survey must ascertain its area, the number of its residents, houses, mosques, and industrial units, and the year it was established.
