Lahore: The Punjab government has initiated efforts in its bid to improve the cleanliness system of Lahore, according to sources. Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar recently ordered the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) to increase its organisational capacity and improve its financial management.

The government is attempting to bring in changes to improve the performance of the LWMC; with plans to curb the unnecessary expenditures of the authority and to divide its jurisdiction into different zones. The solid waste management system is going to be improved as well after the contract with a foreign company ends. The work on improvements is expected to begin soon.

During the meeting, the CM reviewed future models for cleanliness of the city along with various other matters pertaining to the authority. He instructed that the LWMC should include more professionals on its board. He also ordered all departments to prepare for every possible situation and strictly told them that there was no room for tardiness. Inquiries will be held in cases of irregularities.
