Lahore: Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday (August 24) laid the foundation stone for the signal-free Shahkam Chowk flyover project, according to a news report. The flyover will be completed at a cost of PKR 4.23 billion and facilitate 125,000 million vehicles on a daily basis.

As per the details, the project is expected to be completed within 10 months. Reportedly, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) saved PKR 395 million in land acquisition and also through transparent tendering for this project. Under this initiative, a 6-km long Defence Road will be dualized while two flyovers will be constructed at the canal and Hudiara Drain.
During the ceremony, CM Buzdar stated that the incumbent government has adopted a balanced development policy to ensure everyone has equitable access to education and healthcare facilities. He went on to say that Shahkam Chowk is an essential point to connect different areas of the city.
Moreover, the CM disclosed that the government has completed several projects in Lahore including a pedestrian bridge at Jinnah Hospital, an entrance point at Thokar Niaz Baig, Lal Shahbaz Qalandar Underpass, and an underground water tank.
Furthermore, it was reported that a turbo roundabout will be constructed at Shahdara Chowk to resolve traffic problems and an underpass will be built at Samanabad Chowk. CM Buzdar stated that construction work at Ferozepur Road Gulab Devi Underpass and Sheranwala Gate flyover is progressing.

Additionally, CM revealed that three parking plazas with the capacity to park more than 1,000 vehicles were being developed at Ek Moriya Pull, Masti Gate, and Sheranwala Gate. He also announced to build a new general hospital at a cost of PKR 14 billion. In addition, a surface water treatment plant will be developed at Shad Bagh, Shahdara, and Mehmood Boti at an estimated cost of PKR 10 billion, he added
