Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar announced a new soft loan scheme for the skill development of the needy youth in the province, a news source reported. According to sources, the provincial government will distribute a sum of PKR 9 billion among the youth to help them start their own businesses.

The CM made the announcement while chairing the provincial parliamentary meeting on Monday. During the meeting, Buzdar stated that work was in progress on the ten special economic zones, which will help provide jobs to around 200,000 people.
The meeting also discussed the construction of overhead bridges in Lahore to help pedestrians and improve the traffic system. CM Buzdar stated that they will spend PKR 1 billion to repair different roads in the city. He added that the authorities concerned will complete the first phase of the repair and maintenance of the rural roads by December as part of the Naya Pakistan Manzilain Aasan programme.
CM Buzdar said that they will construct a 1,200-kilometre (km) long roads from January to June in 2020. He added that they will spend PKR 15 billion on the programme’s second phase. Furthermore, the CM stated, that they will invest PKR 180 billion to construct 883-km long roads in Punjab with public-private partnership.

The meeting also discussed the extension of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA)’s scope throughout the province, and the continuation of the anti-encroachment operation.
