Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar on Wednesday announced a development package worth PKR 13.80 billion for Layyah to improve the infrastructure, according to news sources.
CM Buzdar also reiterated that his government is working on schemes to uplift Layyah city and eliminate public deprivations. Following are the details of the various development projects announced:

- PKR 300 million will be spent on execution of two development projects that have been launched to improve the road infrastructure and beautification of Layyah city
- PKR 382 million have been spent for the construction of 28-kilometre-long roads under the ‘Naya Pakistan-Manzalain Asaan’ programme
- Foundation stone for three projects with an accumulated cost of PKR 1.5 billion have also been laid
- PKR 670 million is allocated for the dualisation of the Layyah-Chowk Azam Road
- PKR 590 million is allocated for 10 development projects in the city
- PKR 400 million is to be spent on the restoration roads connecting farm-to-market
- PKR 2.72 billion will be spend on 12 road development projects (200-kilometre-long) that include 30-kilometre-long Layyah-Kehrore road
- PKR 29 billion is the estimated cost for the development of 204-kilometre-long Layyah-Shorkot-Chichawatni Road – the development work of which will be launched in the next fiscal year
- PKR 99 million will be spent on the establishment of five Rescue 1122 centers at Fatehpur, Kot Sultan, Chowk Azam, Dhori Adda, and 82 Morr
- PKR 200 million to be spent on beautification projects of Layyah
- PKR 26.5 million will be spent on development of sports facilities in Layyah city, Kehrore Lal Essan, Chobara, and Jumman Shah
- PKR 750 million will be used for the establishment of six girls and boy’s degree colleges at Amiruddin Wala
- PKR 750 million will be spent to upgrade 367 Layyah schools, along with six other development schemes

The chief minister also said that the balloting process for the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) in Layyah is completed and work on the Greater Thal Canal project has been resumed. He announced that a 100-megawatt (MW) solar project is soon to start operations in Chobara, that will contribute 188 million units of electricity to the national grid. Mr Buzdar also revealed that South Punjab’s largest industrial estate will also be built in Chobara tehsil.
