Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the construction of the Korangi Causeway bridge and the Hub Canal rehabilitation projects, and directed the authorities concerned to complete them within a year, according to a news story published on July 28.

A review meeting was held at the CM House chaired by CM Shah. During the meeting, the minister approved the development projects for Karachi. The CM mentioned that the Korangi Causeway bridge is important because the existing causeway submerges during the monsoon seasons. This causes problems for the people of Malir and Korangi.
Moreover, the meeting discussed the two options available for the construction of the bridge. The first option is to construct a four-lane bridge while the other was to build a six-lane bridge. In the meeting, it was decided that a six-lane bridge will be constructed to facilitate the people. As per Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the accumulated cost of the project will be PKR 5 billion and will be completed within two years. However, CM Shah has directed the authorities to complete the construction within a year.

Additionally, the CM mentioned that the Hub Canal rehabilitation project includes the construction of the Hub Canal, rehabilitation of the Hub filtration plant, improving the capacity from 80 to 100 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) operation, and water conveyance from the Hub Dam. It was disclosed that the said project will cost PKR 14 billion. the Hub Canal rehabilitation project will be developed on a public-private partnership mode and is expected to be complete within 2 years.
