Islamabad: The government on Tuesday handed over administrative control of the Marghazar Zoo to the Ministry of Climate Change, according to news sources. Previously, the zoo was managed by the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad, which operates under the Ministry of Interior.

Last year, State Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul said to a preliminary body that the Marghazar Zoo attraction lacked trained staff; adding that exotic animals were living under poor sanitation and hygiene conditions.

As per reports, Advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam has said that they will get ‘Friends of Islamabad’ on board to bring about the needed improvements in the zoo’s daily affairs and provision of amenities.
He added that standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be drafted with a focus on sanitation, care and food for the kept animals.
