Karachi: A garbage clean-up drive was initiated in several areas of the Korangi district on Saturday, and was successful in removing approximately 79 tonnes of garbage from the said locations, according to news reports.

The campaign began after Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the increasing number of local complaints filed for addressing the issue. He has requested the deputy commissioners of six city districts to take immediate action to alleviate this concern.
During the drive, heavy machinery, including mechanical shovels and dumpers, were utilised.
All district administrators have been tasked, on an individual footing, with overlooking the cleanup process to ensure proper garbage disposal as well as the sweeping of streets in the areas under their respective jurisdictions.

District Municipal Corporation Korangi Chairman Syed Nayyar Raza has guaranteed the spraying of insecticides in several areas after the cleanup process has been completed.
Reportedly, this campaign is geared to provide a greener and cleaner environment for residents on an urgent basis; with Model Colony, Shah Faisal Colony and Qayyumabad being some of the more notable regions that were targeted by it.

Furthermore, marriage halls, commercial buildings and private hospitals have been warned of strict action if they are found dumping more garbage into their surrounding areas.
