Karachi: One day after the Sindh government banned open littering for a 90-day period in the city, the Sukkan police arrested a man for throwing waste on a street in Malir District, according to a news report.
The accused was arrested after the Sukkan police quarters received a complaint about a citizen dumping waste in an open area. A case has been registered under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

The provincial government is concerned about the sanitation situation in the provincial capital, which has become a great public nuisance. This imposition of Section 144 is the government’s attempt to stop littering on the streets, beaches, roads and other public places. The dumping of debris from construction sites on the roads and spitting paan has also been banned.

Anyone who violates the law will be charged under Section 188 of Pakistan Penal Code, which addresses the penalty for disobeying orders issued by public servants. The penalty of such crimes ranges from one-month imprisonment and a fine of PKR 200 to the six-month imprisonment and a fine of PKR 1,000, depending on the specifics of the crime and the degree of the violation.
