Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday said that the government would allocate one-percent of the funds allocated for the Public Sector Development Programme (PSD) for financing countrywide ‘Clean & Green’ campaign, a news source reported.

He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting held in Islamabad to earmark funds for environmental initiatives under the Clean & Green campaign.
The Ministry of Climate Change has identified five pillars of the programme: tree plantation, solid waste management, liquid waste management, total sanitation/hygiene, and the provision of safe drinking water.
It will also reportedly develop a comprehensive ‘clean and green scorecard’ on a priority basis, which will show the performance of various cities across the country. The best performers will be recognised at the national level for their achievements.

Recently, the standing committees of the Senate and National Assembly banned the use of plastic bags and bottles during official meetings. The Ministry of Climate Change also working on an initiative to make Islamabad plastic-free.
