Lahore: Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Moshin Naqvi approved the ‘Punjab Clean Air Policy’ and ‘Punjab Plastic Management Strategy’, a news source reported on April 7. The caretaker CM also approved the action plan for transport, industries, local government, environment, agriculture, urban development, energy, housing, labour, and other departments.

CM Naqvi approves these at the 7th meeting of the Punjab Environment Protection Council. The Environment Protection Department Secretary provided a detailed overview of the key features of the Punjab Clean Air Policy and Punjab Plastic Management Strategy.
As per the details, the Punjab Plastic Management Strategy aims to promote sustainable practices for plastic management by adopting modern recycling technologies. This policy will also offer incentives for recycling and reusing. It was mentioned that the institutional capacity of the line departments will be strengthened to ensure the effective execution of these measures.

Moreover, the minister opined that there is a need to create awareness regarding the harmful effects of plastic pollution and the benefits of sustainable plastic management. The meeting decided that line departments will prepare the working plan while the Punjab government will execute the policy and action plan with the support of the World Bank (WB).
