Peshawar: Members of the civil society joined environmentalists to demand that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa place a ban on industrial units and stone crushing plants operating in Hayatabad, a news source reported. The demand came forth in a bid to control increasing levels of air and land pollution in the neighbourhood.

Furthermore, they also recommended that traffic police and Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) impose fines on smoke emitting vehicles, and those involved in littering public places.
The representatives of the civil society and the environmentalists proposed these measures during a meeting held with Finance Minister Taimoor Jhagra, and PDA Director General Engineer Muhammad Uzair. They mentioned that the industrial units, cardboard manufacturing units, and stone crushing plants pose serious health hazard to the residents of Hayatabad in general, and those living in its Phase 7 in particular.

The members of the delegation also highlighted the fact that some of these plants and industrial units are owned by influential people, which is why these units continue to operate despite being in violation to the regulations set by the Environment Protection Agency.
