Karachi: The Karachi administration has decided to develop a city tour map to promote tourism in the city, a news source reported. Along with the map, efforts will be made for conservation of more than 1,500 public and private properties declared as heritage buildings.
According to an official statement, strict policies have been adopted to avert damage to the heritage buildings primarily located in the old city area. Conservationists and private owners are being consulted for the restoration.
Manzoor Ahmed, the representative of the heritage and antiques section of the provincial culture department said that restoration of these 1,500 buildings can’t be handled by the department alone and that private companies will be involved under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The process will be monitored by senior architects and conservationists.
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation representative Abdul Khaliq stated that steps will be taken to turn Empress Market, Khaliqdina Hall into an attraction for local and foreign tourists.
