Karachi: With a rapidly increasing number of vehicles plying the roads and the city spreading in all directions, the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has planned to build more flyovers for easing traffic flow.
The CDGK would start construction of flyovers at the Korangi Crossing Roundabout and near the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital during the current fiscal year, while three other sites for flyovers at Water Pump Roundabout, Shahrah-e Pakistan, near Habib Bank Roundabout in SITE, and near Shaheen Complex, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road have been earmarked.
City Administrator Fazlur Rehman recently approved the construction of three new flyovers and directed Works and Services Department (WSD) executive district officer (EDO) Rasheed Mughal to proceed onward with the project.
He further directed the WSD to accelerate the pace of ongoing development projects in the city.
While talking to Daily Times, Mughal informed that the preliminary work plan for the construction of the flyovers has been completed. The departmental statistical details of these development projects have been finalised and a consultant firm would be asked to prepare the feasibility reports, he added.
He said the city administrator wanted more facilities for the citizens especially reducing traffic gridlocks. Rehman had held a special meeting with CDGK engineers to discuss development projects in order to address different social and economic issues and discussed the possibility of new flyovers pointing out different venues under severe traffic stress.
With the approval of the city administrator, the WSD EDO would allocate required funds from the budget book in the coming fiscal year. The PC-I would be prepared within a month after submission of the technical report by consultant firm.
