Islamabad: The capital city administration has decided to take strict action against citizens for littering in the federal capital, a news source reported.

Chief Commissioner Amir Ali Ahmed issued a notification to this effect. Under this new policy, assistant commissioners have been authorised to impose heavy fines on the citizens found littering in the city.
The officials concerned will also take action against drivers who throw litter out of their vehicles. It is pertinent to mention that they have been given powers similar to those of municipal magistrate.

This initiative forms part of the cleanliness campaign government has introduced in major cities such as Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and other areas.
