Lahore: Residents protested against the government and gas authorities on December 20 because of the prevailing gas shortage in the city.
Reportedly, affected areas include Samanabad, Railway Colony, Garden Town, Gulberg, Ashiqabad, Mughalpura, Badami Bagh, Jain Mandir, Ravi Road, Awan Town, Sodiwal, Chauburji, Ghazi Road, Singhpura, and Kotli Peer Abdul Rehman, among others.
The situation forced residents to take to the streets in protest. Samanabad residents even staged a demonstration, in which women holding cooking utensils chanted slogans against the government.
According to a news source, protesters also expressed their frustration at the inconsistency of gas supply and said it was unfair that the Sui Gas Northern Pipelines Limited (SGPL) continued to send high bills. Protesters in Zafar and Islam colonies burnt tyres and blocked traffic.
SGPL officials have not commented on the situation so far.
