Karachi: The Pakistan Railways administration has demolished 100 houses illegally constructed on Circular Railway land, a news source reported. The Supreme Court previously issued the orders for this operation.
The drive started from Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 3 yesterday in the presence of heavy police contingents. The occupants of illegal houses requested the authority to grant them some time for shifting their belongings to a safe location. After these entreaties were heard, the operation commenced.

In total, the railways administration razed 100 structures, with the operation lasting for several hours. As per sources, no resistance was reported.
The residents of these houses claimed that they have been paying monthly rent to members of a political party. They also complained that had they been informed to clear the area in advance, they would have already done so.

Previously, a similar operation was carried out in December 2018 to free 7-kilometres of Circular Railways land in the city’s central districts. Furthermore, the Pakistan Railways administration has announced the launch of a similar crackdown to free railways land from encroachers in the eastern districts.
Reportedly, a 20-kilometre wide stretch of Circular Railways land in Karachi’s eastern districts is under illegal occupation.
