Karachi: Pakistan’s electric vehicle (EV) sector has received a significant boost with a USD 340 million investment from a Chinese consortium. The announcement was made during a press briefing in Karachi, where prominent business figures, including Arif Habib, Zubair Tufail, Khalid Tawab, and Mirza Ishtiaq Baig, gathered to discuss the ambitious project.
The investment aims to establish a manufacturing plant for electric vehicles (EVs) and install a nationwide network of charging stations. This joint initiative is being led by Pakistan’s Malik Group in partnership with China’s ADEN Group.
Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, who attended the event, assured full support from the provincial government, including the provision of land for the manufacturing plant. In a bid to promote EV adoption, Shah revealed that the Sindh government plans to purchase over 20% of the vehicles produced at the Karachi plant.

Malik Group Chairperson Malik Khuda Bakhsh confirmed that the first batch of 30 charging stations would arrive from China within the next 10 days, with installations set to commence across Pakistan. The first charging station has already been installed and is operational in Karachi, with plans to expand into Lahore soon.
ADEN Group CEO Yasser Bhambani outlined the financial breakdown of the investment: USD 90 million will be allocated to the installation of 3,000 charging stations, while USD 240 million will fund the construction of the EV manufacturing plant. The company aims to begin production by December 2025 and expects an annual output of 72,000 vehicles.
In addition to serving the local market, the company plans to export EVs to neighboring regions, including the Middle East, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, further positioning Pakistan as a key player in the regional electric vehicle market.
This $340 million investment represents a major step forward in Pakistan’s transition to sustainable transportation, paving the way for more eco-friendly mobility solutions across the country.
