Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah invited Chinese firms to invest in Karachi projects during a meeting with a delegation led by Chairman Belt and Road Group Mr. Wan Xiaowu, as reported on October 2.
As per details, the meeting focused on encouraging both private and public Chinese investments in key sectors of the city. The Sindh government assured full support to Chinese public and private firms, encouraging investments in projects like waste-to-energy, wastewater treatment, electric vehicle manufacturing, and the reconstruction of the city’s sewerage system. Over 12 Chinese firms have expressed interest in these sectors, with a focus on developing sustainable infrastructure in the city.
Key Investment Opportunities
The delegation highlighted interest from over 12 leading Chinese firms in various sectors, including waste-to-energy, wastewater treatment, desalination plants, electric bus manufacturing, and the reconstruction of Karachi’s sewerage system. CM Murad assured that the government would provide all necessary support for establishing these projects.
Strengthening Law Enforcement and Infrastructure
In addition to promoting investments, CM Murad discussed measures taken to combat extremism and enhance public safety through intelligence sharing and collaboration with law enforcement agencies. He emphasized ongoing initiatives to strengthen the police force, including training programs, upgrading the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and launching the Karachi Safe City Project with advanced surveillance technology.
Murad Ali Shah shared insights on Sindh’s fiscal strategy for the upcoming year, outlining a total budget of PKR 3.056 trillion, with significant allocations for development and essential services. He acknowledged the province’s financial challenges but reaffirmed a commitment to prioritizing infrastructure, social protection, and public services. The CM also mentioned a development outlay of PKR 959 billion for 2024-25, focusing on crucial sectors like education and health.
