Islamabad: The president of Zonergy Company Limited and vice president of China Machinery Engineering Corporation donated PKR 5 million to the COVID-19 Relief Fund, in a meeting held with Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday, a news source reported. As per publications, this is in addition to the PKR 1.2 billion that a local digital service provider – Jazz – announced to donate.

As per a press release issued by the PM Media Office, the donations made by the Chinese firms is in addition to medical supplies – worth PKR 3 million – handed to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). In the same meeting, the Zonergy president also expressed interest of investing in Pakistan’s renewable energy sector, by manufacturing solar panels.

The donations announced by Jazz include short to medium term initiatives, planned to limit the pandemic’s negative impact on the economy, according to a statement issued by the company. With this amount, the company has announced of providing support to various welfare organisations, operating across the country.

In other news, Hussain Dawood pledged PKR 1 billion to the PM’s fund on behalf of his family, Dawood Hercules, and Engro. The Pakistan Army, Police force, Airforce, Navy and other departments also surrendered their one-month’s salary to aid the government in providing relief to the loackdown-affected people.
