Lahore: A Chinese firm, Sunrise Construction, has finalised an agreement with the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) for constructing 20,000 low-cost houses in Lahore and Sialkot under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP), a news source reported.

PHATA Chairman and Punjab Minister for Housing and Urban Development Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect with Sunrise Construction CEO Kevin Zhu. NPHP Task Force Chairman Yaqoob Izhar and Public Facilitation Committee Chairman Hammad Awan, and other officials concerned were all present at the occasion.

As per reports, the Chinese firm has pledged to construct 10,000 prefabricated houses (each in Lahore and Sialkot) during the next three years. It has also announced to construct a model house during the next one-and-a-half month.
The provincial government will provide 95% of the labour force required for the construction of these houses, while the remaining 5% would comprise technical experts from China. This project is expected to provide employment opportunities to approximately 300,000 Pakistani citizens.

According to Rasheed, these houses will run on solar power. The government also plans to provide water recycling plants for the project. In addition, the prefabricated technology would help regulate temperature inside the residential units during winter and summer seasons.
